Understanding Scenes and Plot Structure Using Netflix Original Series Altered Carbon

Note this piece will contain some information relevant to the Netflix original series Altered Carbon. It may spoil the series for those who have not watched it. I still think it will be enjoyable if you watch it. I will not give up the ending but will look at the structure of the story through the lens of the central question in the series.

Plot Summary

The show Altered Carbon on Netflix led me to understand a key flaw in my work as a creative non-fiction writer. That flaw was the lack of awareness of how scenes, event sequence, and story alter the understanding of the central message being communicated.

I had an understanding of how it worked within individual sentences, but never how it worked as a big picture.

By nature I am a non-linear thinker, but the ability to effectively communicate a message means that you have to develop a way to make your non-linear thinking style make sense when writing or storytelling in a linear fashion.
