Ozark S1 — References To The Bible (Parable of the Net)
Ozark S1 contains several easter eggs from the Bible. The events of the show are like parables that lead to a deeper understanding of the Bible.
Let’s start with the parable of the net.
Parable of the Net
“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind, which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away. So it will be in the end of the world. The angels will come forth, and separate the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."
Del Fishes
In episode 1, Del catches Bruce and The Hansons stealing from him. As a result, he kills Bruce’s girlfriend.
Del Separates The Wicked From the Righteous
After Bruce’s girlfriend is killed, Bruce and The Hansons confess to stealing $8 million over 3 years.
First Del kills Bruce and the Hansons, but Marty pleads with Del. Marty’s life is spared.
If we look at these events through the lens of the Bible Marty is righteous and Bruce and the Hansons are wicked.
Bruce killing them is like the end of the parable that says:
“The angels will come forth, and separate the wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."
The vat of acid they put them in, is the “furnace of fire.”
