… my alternate theory is that the investment in the afterlife was an exploitation of regal hedonism. And although today we don’t see much tomb construction or even burials, a parallel can be drawn between the Egyptian desire to self-gratify in the afterlife and today’s engrossment with personal, digital worlds. I’ll come back to this.
